LGBTQI+ and Gender Issues
A significant portion of Dr. Ausloos's research focuses on topics related to LGBTQI+ issues, especially as they relate to counseling and education. Topics include neurodiversity in counseling, perspectives on sexual/affectional orientation identity development, counseling for transgender clients, working with gender-expansive clients, school counselor competence with trans students, and harassment and discrimination with Trans* and gender-expansive youth.
Counseling Practice and Competency
Dr. Ausloos has delved into various aspects of counseling practice, techniques, and the competencies required. Examples include the review on neurodiversity in counseling, culturally responsive counseling, effective remediation in master’s level counseling students, and exemplary practices for online research & assessment in counseling.

Dr. Ausloos has shown an interest in the broader topic of mental health and well-being, especially in relation to specific populations or situations. Papers on topics like counselors coping with client suicide, mental health and counseling needs of women with reproductive cancers, and the effects of COVID-19 on professional counselors, highlight this focus.

Dr. Ausloos' Counseling Approach
Dr. Clark Ausloos, a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, Licensed School Counselor, and National Certified Counselor, serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Counseling Psychology Department at the University of Denver. He also works with children, adolescents, young adults, and families at Julia Burrow, MD and Associates, a private practice, in Northwest Ohio.
Embracing a warm, person-centered, and humanistic approach, Dr. Ausloos underscores the potential for resilience and growth in his clients, leveraging evidence-based treatments with a wellness and solution-focused perspective. His profound experience encompasses working with children, adolescents, and college-aged individuals, addressing challenges ranging from depression and anxiety to identity and life transitions.
